It's been years since I've been to a Dakota restaurant. Our local one closed about 10 or so years ago. The staff were friendly & the restaurant had charming/cozy atmosphere. The salad bar was excellent. Our meals were cooked perfectly & absolutely delicious. I ordered the angus burger & my husband had filet mignon. The fresh bread was just as we had remembered! The price was very reasonable for the delicious food we received. We will definitely be back!!

There's not a steak at this place that I haven't liked. My friend just reminded me that I may not have ever done a review about the "even though I'm here at least twice a month. It's great atmosphere. I can sit at the same table just about every time I come here. They decorate for the Christmas. Great staff and they have a pretty good wine list. Highly recommend this place for your every day delicious steak dinner. Update 4/20/19: as if this place couldn't get better! The brunch is incredible! Shrimp and grits, Mac and cheese, smoked fish, prime rib, the best waffles and syrup and a fantastic omelet station.

I really enjoy Dakota. Unfortunetly the one close by me closed awhile ago and so if I want to come here, I have to travel now. Oh well.. I should say that this place blows Outback away in almost every way. First off is the ambiance. Someone, another reviewer described it as "Log Cabin" and I'd agree. This is the type of place you'd expect to find in Arizona. (That's a compliment as anyone who has been to Arizona knows.) Also there is the menu. Much variety is found. One thing that has always bothered me about Outback is their menu could have a bit more variety. With Dakota, no need to worry about that issue. And I just like the food better here. I was originally such a fan of their burgers that is all I would order but then I got tired of them and moved on to other things. I have to say..right now..they have this amazing Mesquite Chicken Teriyaki. My mom turned me onto this dish and I think it maybe in my top five for best Chicken dishes. Plus I love Wood Fired Chicken! I still do not get why the Dakota near me and another chain I love, Uno's Deep Dish Pizza shut down. I'd love to see Dakota come back to Fairfield County. They rule!

Determining between a 4-star review vs. a 5-star review, I decided on a 5 star because of Marissa the waitress who assisted our table. She is all energy, enthusiastic and all about customer service. From the minute we got seated and thru the course of our meal, she was awesome. For questions where she didn't have an answer (she is been with Dakota for only a couple of months now), she checked with her manager and got back to us. She is awesome and make sure you ask for her. My first time at Dakota and i came in for the weekend brunch. The buffet spread is huge and great value for money if you have the right appetite. The salad bar, waffle station, omelette bar and the dessert spread is awesome. The food is delicious and fresh. Some of my favorites are the smoked salmon from the salad bar, chicken and waffle (the chicken had a nice flavor but lacked the crunchy texture), and the dessert station (i made it a point to taste all the dessert items, LOL!!) Overall, I enjoyed the visit at Dakota and I am certainly going back to explore the dinner menu as well as their HH. p.s: something that I learnt from Marissa (the waitress who assisted us), follow their Facebook page to get insights into some cool events that they organize each month.

I have no clue where these bad reviews are coming from?? They made us nervous but we stopped because the menu sounded great. Salad bar was A1. Bacon wrapped scallops- YUM. I got the wood fired shrimp and it was delicious. My fiancé got the pulled pork mac & cheese with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, and it was awesome. Service was impeccable. Amanda timed everything perfectly and was super attentive. Also not sure why people keep saying this place should have better management.... I saw at least two managers touching every table while we ate. Don't listen to the haters!!! Couldn't have had a better experience.

Went here for brunch with friends. I was a little leery considering this restaurant is for meat lovers, however the brunch offered many options. Omelettes, salad, fruit, pastry, mashed potatoes, veggies. More than I could ever eat. $3.00 bloody Mary's are a good deal. The atmosphere is cozy, cabin like, upon the walls are many dead animals to watch you eat. I'm not eating any meat, so I think we are cool.

When we were leaving the Yelp event here last month, we agreed before we opened the car door that we would have to be back soon for a Sunday Brunch. That's what we did today. Brunch is $21.95 and runs from 9 AM to 2 PM. We arrived around 1:00 and saw the parking lot was crowded with a steady parade of exiting patrons. The dining room was pretty crowded. Overall, it definitely validated Dakota's claim to fame for being voted "Best of Hartford's " #1 Brunch spot for every year since 2007. The food selection is staggering and clearly merits the $21.95 price. What will you find? Scrambled Eggs Fresh Seasonal Fruit Omelets Made-to-Order Bagels and Cream Cheese Homemade Belgian Waffles Bacon and Sausage Homefries Assorted Pastries and Muffins Smoked Seafood Carving Stations Assorted Hot Entrees (a chicken a fish, and a beef/pasta) Our Farm-Fresh Salad Bar Assorted Cheeses and Cold Cuts Assorted Cakes, Pies, and Candies Juice, Soda, Milk, Coffee, and Tea Alcohol is not included with the meal, but after twelve you can add a Bloody Mary or Bellini for just $3. My Bloody Mary was generously portioned and not too spicy. I had some of the smoked salmon on a toasted bagel and it was a good choice. THe salmon was nice and fresh, not thawed out frozen. I had a nice chicken-kale-tomato pomodoro dish (served over rice) from the three hot entree stations. Some of the stand-out dishes I had were surprising. The Bacon was amazing--really thick and chewy with excellent taste. The fresh fruit, piled by the cake and dessert bar, was excellent. I had pineapple, kiwi, melon, and a few chocolate covered strawberries. The fruit was fresh and sweet and firm and perfect. Lastly, at the side of the dessert bar was a jar of (don't laugh) Malted Milk Balls!! They were sooooo good- thick with chocolate and so decadently good. I didn't have any eggs or waffles, but my brunch compadres did and their plates looked great as well. As for service, we had a really nice guy (Michael Z) as our server. He was very attentive, and cleared dishes and re-poured coffee at frequent intervals. But his strength was his personality- funny, engaging, polite, he was excellent. Dakota will be offering this brunch deal on Saturdays too starting next month, Dakota brunch is worth every penny....

Welcome to Dakota, a delightful culinary destination nestled along the scenic Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. This American steakhouse seamlessly marries the rustic charm of a log cabin with a modern twist, providing an inviting atmosphere that beckons both locals and visitors alike. As a food reviewer, I’m always on the lookout for hidden gems, and Dakota stands out as a prime example of a vibrant dining experience.

Dakota is known for its diverse menu that caters to various dietary needs, featuring gluten-free options and many vegetarian selections. The establishment is a haven for steak lovers but is equally accommodating for those seeking lighter fare. The wood-fired steaks, like the mouthwatering Mixed Grill—a splendid blend of mesquite-grilled chicken, jumbo gulf shrimp, and top sirloin—are sure to please any palate. The Atlantic Salmon, drizzled with a rich brown sugar soy glaze, adds a fish option that doesn't compromise on flavor.

One of Dakota’s standout features is its award-winning salad bar. Diners rave about its fresh, seasonal produce and a plethora of toppings. As the lovely review from William I. mentions, the salad bar is exceptionally well-prepared, offering everything from marinated salads to an assortment of toppings that ensure a personalized experience.

And let’s not overlook the desserts. A diner’s visit isn’t complete without indulging in Dakota’s signature Homemade Mud Pie, beloved since 1963. This decadent ensemble of coffee ice cream atop an Oreo crust, finished with chocolate fudge, mocha cream, and slivered almonds, is a treat you won’t forget.

  • Dining Experience: The ambiance is cozy, with a woodsy scent that evokes feelings of warmth and comfort. Guests often describe it as a cabin-style sanctuary, making it a perfect spot for casual dining.
  • Catering & Accessibility: Dakota accommodates various preferences, offering takeout, delivery, and catering options. The inclusion of outdoor seating, free Wi-Fi, and ample parking further enhances the experience.
  • Customer Service: The attentive staff, like Marissa, as highlighted in Ashwin S.’s review, exemplifies the welcoming spirit of Dakota, ensuring guests feel valued and well cared for during their visit.

Dakota isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a community staple where families gather for brunch, friends meet for dinner, and groups celebrate special occasions. With an impressive menu and a commitment to quality, this steakhouse continues to thrive as a favorite among diners in the Rocky Hill area.
